TEGORZO
The river Piave, with its distance from the mountain
to the sea, marks some of the most important historical
and cultural moments of every territory that touch
its waters indelibly.
In the small
city of Fener, the two banks of the river are joined by a bridge: the Tegorzo’s
bridge. The Tegorzo’s Bridge is situated within the Feltre territory, an
area characterized by the Dolomiti mountain chain and very close to the charming
province of Treviso. The natural beauty and the peculiar Alpine landscape give
a very unique touch to this territory. It is soon inevitable that such a special,
natural spot with such a particular name will become the perfect place for a
business to develop and bear the very same name: The Tegorzo’s Restaurant.
The
very first restaurant built in
this spot |
with
such a name, is completely destroyed during
the First World War 1915-1918, at the end
of which only a pinnacle and a bunch of ruins
are left. The firm character of the local
people
well-known for being stubborn and determined
makes sure that the Tegorzo Hotel gets built
again, life must go on and the restaurant,
made initially only of wood boards, starts
the activity
again as the ‘restaurant de tola’ as
the locals call it in their dialect at the
time. It is a poor and simple structure,
but as illustrated
in the period photograph, very lively and
complete with a written plate.
The story of this hotel is indeed very peculiar,
during its existence it gets to be demolished
another two times after the 15-18 destruction
due to the war, but it will get built again and
every time in a better and more efficient way
than before.
Forty years have now passed by since the Gerlin
brothers, Silvano and Armando, have taken over
this hotel. They were just over twenty years
old when they started their adventure as owners
of this charming hotel, Silvano looking after
the customer service and the reception and Armando
looking after the restaurant and food side.
In another period photograph hereby, you can
see the building as it was acquired by the Gerlin
Brothers.
Some
year pass by and soon the architecture
of the building becomes
a little inadequate for
the Gerlin brothers’ needs. The decision
to demolish the building is taken and a more
efficient structure takes its place. Now the
Gerlin brothers can express their full potential
as owners and managers of the hotel and restaurant.
But it is not over. The hotel Tegorzo sees another
major change when Italy becomes part of the European
market. The building once more has become obsolete
for the modern times and needs serious alterations.
The Gerlin brothers feel once more the urge to
keep up with times and regulations and to better
their performances and hotel. So for the second
time after the war, the building gets partially
demolished and gets through a series of renewal.
More cement, more steal, more glass gets used,
and the structure becomes more secure, earthquake
resistant with better services and more comfortable
spaces. The two brothers are now satisfied, they
can achieve challenging plans and projects, satisfy
their customers fully. They become more and more
bond each passing day, not only by sharing the
same blood, but having a very close business
relationship and even closer family life. Nowadays
they enjoy the valid help of their grown children
Renzo and Francesca, Armando’s children,
Alessandra and Daniele, Silvano’s ones,
all together the Gerlin family is a true ‘tash
force’.
In the third picture you can admire the updated
version of the hotel Tegorzo as it is at present
days.
As
a famous, old, popular song says:’ and
the river Piave murmered….. I’ll
take a break here…’.
